Questions and Answers
COMMON QUESTIONS
What is an Electric shower?
A big advantage of electric showers generally, is that they don't use any stored hot water at all. Standard electric showers work by taking
water from the mains cold water supply.
They heat the water when you turn the shower on, passing it over a built-in heating element, similar to how a kettle works.
Electric showers are always ready to use, any time of the day or night.
Why is the temperature of my shower not hot enough?
You may not know that the cold weather can have an effect on your electric showers in particular.
During the winter months the temperature of the cold mains water supply is also colder.
This means that in order to heat the water supplied from the cold mains water supply to a comfortable showering temperature,
electric showers require the flow rate reduced in order to allow the water to heat up longer within the shower.
This is achieved by turning the temperature dial clockwise and thus reduce the flow of water.
How do you adjust your electric shower?
1. Run the shower as you are making the adjustments so you can feel the temperature change.
2. Reduce the flow through your shower by turning the dial with red blue indicator.
What type of plumbing fitting is required to connect onto the inlet AQUAS electric showers?
The range of mains fed electric showers require a 15mm compression fitting or ½” threads to be used.
Is it possible to connect an electric shower to an electric circuit that is feeding another appliance?
No, an electric shower must have its own dedicated power supply.
What will happen if the incorrect fuse size is fitted for an electric shower?
If an under-rated fuse is used it will be overloaded and will keep tripping out.
If the fuse rating is too large it will not disconnect the supply quick enough under a short circuit fault condition.
To avoid these problems the correct size fuse/mcb must be fitted for the kW rating of the unit in accordance with the I.E.E. regulations.
Sizes required are: 9.5kw = 40/45amp mcb
What size electric cable is required for an electric shower?
The size of cable that can be used for an electric shower depends on a number of factors which includes,
the kilowatt rating of the shower, the method of cable installation, any de-rating factors and the length of circuit.
For AQUAS showers it is necessary to install 6mm² up to max 21m distance and 10mm² cable up to 32m.
In order to comply with Part P building regulations a competent installer familiar with the requirements of
the current I.E.E regulations must assess the proposed circuit in order to select the correct cable size.
Can I use push-fit pipe and fittings to install my AQUAS electric shower?
Yes, you can use push-fit plumbing except for the final connection onto the shower inlet,
which must be a 15mm compression fitting to ensure a watertight connection.
Do I have to fit a double - pole isolation switch when I install my AQUAS electric shower?
Yes, for the purpose of future servicing of the shower a ceiling or wall mounted DP isolation switch is required.
It is also good practice to isolate the shower when not in use.
Which electric shower do you recommend as a replacement for an old one?
All Aquamax models can replace existing models.
The AQUAMAX footprint will cover electrical and water connection and some fixation points.
AQUAMAX are ideal for replacement as they have multiple entry points for the water.
Only few fixation holes will be needed to be filled and sealed with silicone.
What is the minimum water pressure and flow rate required for AQUAMAX Showers?
The minimum water pressure required for 9.5kW showers is 1 bar at a minimum flow rate of 9 litres per minute. However for having a great showering experience we recommend having from 1.5bars pressure.
What size fuse do I require for an electric shower?
The fuse size must be equal to or the nearest size above the kilowatt rating of the shower i.e.
9.5kw = 40/45amp mcb
Does the wiring to an existing electric shower need upgrading when fitting a higher kilowatt rated unit?
Not necessarily, it will depend on the existing cable size and installation characteristics.
A site inspection by a competent electrician is required to confirm if the existing cable and fuse will need upgrading.
What points need to be considered when replacing an existing electric shower?
Considerations when replacing an electric shower are:
- Dimensions of the unit (will the replacement shower cover existing tiles and screw fixings)
- Cable and water entry points (are they compatible)
- Kilowatt rating of the unit (is the existing cable and fuse size adequate for a higher kW rating)
- Incoming electricity supply to the property (is the supply adequate i.e. 80 or 100amp for a higher kW rating )
My heater only runs COLD even when I turn the temperature handle to maximum
Did you remove the lock switch after filling the heater with water.
How do I change the spray from overhead to handshower and back?
Rotate the diverter always to the full extend on one or the other side.
May I run overhead and handshower together?
The mix position may only be run if there is enough pressure and the incoming water temperature is high.
My TOP/ FLEX shower needs to be at a lower height so my kids can access it too,
but then the overhead is too low to shower.
What can I do?
For such cases we offer an extension piece of 150mm length A000412 or 300mm length/ A000414.
Adding this tube to the electric shower will bring back the overhead to the correct height.
Remove part number 10 with an allen key. Tighten the extension with allen key to your shower. Finalize by adding part number 10 on top of the extension.
My On/Off button does not work properly. What can I Do?
From our experience most On/off button issues are due to installation. The button needs to move freely into the hole of the cover. If it cannot move without friction, problems may occur.
The perfect fitting of the cover is very important. So is the tensionless installation of the backplate. Please assure that the shower when fitted is fitted on an extremely flat surface.
If you have a tiles wall you may find that the tiles are not 100% flat.
In the past we have advised client to remove the shower cover and unscrew the screw slightly.
You may only have to un screw one screw a ¼ turn and this allows the twist in the back panel against the back wall to flat and stop the issue.
The Diverter of my shower does not work properly!
Please make sure you you follow exactly the alignment procedure in the instructions page 16.
AQUAS 2019 ECO Model
How do I know in which power mode I am in?
If the button is flush with the chrome strip your shower is working in full power mode 9,5KW. If the button is up, the summer setting with 5KW and lower temperatures is activated.
For comfort, the shower starts at the position selected last
Caution: Please make sure that the shower is put in full flow (full cold position) before you switch to full power mode to prevent beeing exposed to hot temperatures.
Shimming with Washers.
My Eco button does not work - what can I do?
ECO Button in or proud does not alter the temperature?
My shower is in full hot and still cold?
In rare cases the backplate of the shower does not match the wall well. Which will cause the cover cannot snap. The cover always needs to snap in with a clear snapping noise.
for such cases AQUAS provides with a bag with washers with every shower that needs to go underneath the microswitch.
Is my AQUAS electric shower covered by warranty?
Yes we grant 2 years warranty on the AQUAMAX products.
